Eclipse Printing CC Won by 20 runs

Match report The Date: 15th June 2011
The Venue: St. Fagan’s
The Occasion: League game V Chartered Trust

On a day where in the morning the weather looked like it would deny the mighty Eclipse another chance to increase their unbeaten run in the league. The mighty man from above decided that there was nothing better to watch in the evening , so he brought some good weather unto St Fagan’s to enable a cricket match to take place. His choice was to watch Eclipse take on a team that the previous year had thrashed them and beaten them in the cup final, the team being Chartered Trust. Was this to be a time of change?
All started off on the right foot with skipper being the great tosser he is and winning and sticking Chartered Trust in the field. With the Williams sisters running slightly late and unable to open, it went to Chris and Brian to open the batting and hoping to improve on their last opening partnership of 1. And so was to be the case with Brian being caught for 2. In steps the skipper who was to have more lives than a lucky cat. This all after hitting a quick 25. First he was bowled on a 3 bouncing no ball after taking a huge swish at it. Straight after he was dropped in spectacular fashion at square leg before finally being caught behind to the finest of edges that I as umpire didn’t actually hear. Gareth was to join Chris in the middle for the short period of 4 balls before he was sent for a ridicules run by Chris and run out for 1. I can only imagine what Gareth was saying as he walked off throwing his arms about and waving at Chris. Could only have been singing his praises I can guess. Niluka was next in and got straight into the thick of things with a 6 straight back over the bowlers head. The first of the Williams boys was in next and Mike gave Chris a taste of his own medicine and ran him out for a hard worked 12. This brought Matt to the wicket and with big brother set about making a target that would be competitive on a good wicket. With Mike at first finding it hard to find the middle, he was pushing singles and the odd 2 while at the other end Matt was batting as he had all season. If the ball was in range of his bat he would try to put it over the rope and to a great deal exceeding. Of course Mike couldn’t stand to watch his little brother do so well so joined in the act and started hitting his own boundaries. It wasn’t long before Matt reached his 50 but was soon caught trying to hit another six. In total Matt had equalled the highest score this season of 52 (includes 7 4’s and 2 6’s). Mike wasn’t far behind going back to the shed again being caught on the boundary for 33. The rest of the innings was an anti-climax with Fari hitting a quick 13, Andy being run out for 1 and Eclipse being all out with 9 balls to spare.
Next was time to restrict Chartered Trust and see if 167 were enough. It was left to me and Gareth to open the bowling with both of us taking some stick from the batsmen. It didn’t help the no ball I bowled which was caught by Brian on the boundary. Brian unaware of the fact it was a no ball took a great catch and decided to start celebrating while everyone else was shouting for him to throw the ball back. In what I can only describe as ‘GASH’ for my 3 overs, Eclipse did manage to get one wicket with Skip taking a good catch at mid-off. The skip then turned to Fari and Mike to try and change things. And so things did with Fari proving very hard to get away and only going for 21 runs of his 4 overs but with no success in wickets. Mike was to prove successful and with the help of Gihan was to take 2 wickets in a quick spell of 4 overs for 30. The last 6 overs where to be bowled by Brian and Gihan. Gihan carried on where he has all season and bewilder the opposition with superb flight and getting 3 wickets all bowled! Brian at the other end was to be his usual hard self to get away and bowled the opposition skipper in his 3 overs.
In the end Chartered Trust where 20 runs short but with South Glam only winning by the same margin, it would prove to be a good result and Eclipse would carry on leading the way at the top of the league!!! Could this last? Let’s wait and see.
