Eclipse Printing CC Won by 5 wickets

Match report The Date: 12th July 2011
The Venue: St Fagan’s (The Hallowed Ground)
The Occasion: League match vs. South Glam Education - 'League Title Decider'

So, on this day, it was the League Title Decider, numerous computations existed to provide any one of three teams the league title. Our remit was to obtain maximum points.
Assembling in the car park, the initial vibe was one of optimism, as on this year’s team form, there was no reason why we couldn't beat South Glam. Gareth was especially buoyant, as he was going on a poker tournament the next day to the 'Gay' capital of Britain, Brighton, - but maybe this should have been called a 'poke-him' tournament! However, the air of optimism subsided a little, when it was noticed that SG had drafted in Jack Lansdowne (he hadn't played for them all season), presumably because they 'were running scared’!!

Onto the initial formalities, both skippers sauntered out to the middle to do their 'knuckle shuffles', Alastair yet again showing what a useless tosser he is, by losing. - I'm sure Jimbo should be future skipper as there would be no way he would lose this important sexual act!!! Anyway we were put into the field, a psychological disadvantage as we know how crap we are at chasing a total.

We had a group hug in the middle, with specific instruction from the skipper to keep it tight in the field - although, BFG(aka the perv) was a little concerned with the 'tightness' as Barbie's flaps were somewhat loose (4 loose flaps now), presumably from a good season of fingering by at least 3 of the team. We took our positions, and awaited the opening pair of SG, Mike Provis and Jack.

Old faithful’s Billy & G-Spot opened the bowling, Billy swinging the ball like a banana, and mostly unplayable. Gareth too was swinging both ways, obviously getting the practice in for the next few days in Brighton. Luke had no joy on the wickets front, but came in with figures of 4 overs for just 14 runs. Gareth took first blood by trapping danger man Provis lbw, SG skipper Nick Allen having no hesitation in raising a finger to dismiss the opener for 1, much to the batsman’s disgust (apparently a little tantrum then followed, where he said that he was not going to play for them again!!). Gareth finishing a great spell of 4 overs, 1 wicket for 26 runs.

The second line of attack was Gihan and Fari, Gihan bowling a very consistent line and Fari a niggling line and length. Fari took out SG's number 3 Richardson, clattering the stumps with one that cut in sharply. Gihan subsequently took the next wicket, bowling number 4 Tomlinson, but also taking out the Perv where the bail from the wickets smacked him in the eye, causing a 'gash' of severe proportions, blood gushing everywhere (well there was a small cut and a bit of blood). Anyway, on with the show ...sorry the rest is a bit of a blur due to concussion............only joking, but sorry if I can't remember everything.

Gihan and Fari finished their respective spells on 4 overs, 1 wicket for 15 runs and 2 overs, 1wicket for 13 runs, but 'the ringer' Jack had still not been felled. So it was down to 'dogger' and Mikey on the next change, to blitz SG's batting. Unfortunately, 'dogger' was pasted over the park by Jack, ending with unusually crap figures of 3 overs, no wickets for 34 runs and Mikey(who was still pissed from the night before) was 'gash' with figures of 2 overs, no wickets for 18 runs. Matt fared better, although only bowling one over taking the wickets of Nick Allen and Neil Francis, figures of 1 over, 2 wickets for 2 runs (why wasn't he bowling earlier!!). So there it was, SG finishing on 129 for 5.

.....A run chase of 130 runs to win, a steep ask indeed, considering our past run chase performances. Mikey and Gok to open the batting, both being a little nervous to start, with Andy Parry and Jack opening the bowling for SG. Mikey commenced nudging a few singles, but Gok calling for the runs, moving like Linford Christie between the wickets, but the 'lunchbox' was empty!!! Gok was the first wicket to fall scoring 4 runs, bowled by Andy Parry. Matty was next to the crease to join his bro', let’s hope he continued with his recent form. Mikey was soon to depart, scoring 12 runs.

Gareth 'G-Spot' Coles joined Matty in the middle, he of all people needed a good innings as there's been nothing to shout about this season so far (all down to dodgy umpiring decisions!!!). Fortunately neither G or Matty did not disappoint, Matty thumping boundaries including 3 x 4's and 2 x 6's and G smacking a few also, including 3 x 4's and 1 x 6. G then fell to Steve Parker's niggling bowling for 28 runs, about time he did something this year. It was then Fari's turn to join Matty, but he could only score 6 runs, then Niluka not fairing much better scoring 5.

ENTER skipper to support Matty who was going great guns, skip not wanting to be outdone, scores a boundary and some singles, while Matty at this stage obtaining an awesome 50. ...10 runs then required off the last over - we can do this!!!!!!!!!!! So between them skip and Matty take us to 129 with one ball remaining. Skip facing the last ball with 1 run required to win - tense or f***king what - YES YES YES YES - he slams a boundary for an impressive win, first victory over SG in 6 or 7 seasons.

A FANTASTIC RESULT - Well done guys, goes to show that we can do it. SG absolutely 'gutted'.

Let’s continue this into the 'Shield' competition …..
