Match report
The Date: 13th July
The Venue: Heath Park
The Occasion: Friendly V Highway Hurricanes
It was a warm summer evening last Thursday and the mood in the camp was buoyant following our brilliant victory over South Glam the night before. Thursday was a night with a difference though, most of the big guns were rested, and it was a chance for the nearly men to shine brighter than Hailey’s Comet. It’s just unfortunate that we shone as brightly as a lump of coal.
Skipper soon swaggered up to take the fag pack toss, and won (at least we won something) and then sent them in to bat. Dave Nash opened the bowling and started off brilliantly as usual. I must say that every time I watch Nasher bowl, he bowls really well. Dave and Dylan opening the bowling together got us off to a great start. Dave ended up taking 3 for 16 off 3 over’s, and Dylan taking a brilliant 2 for 6 off 3, including a maiden. 5 wickets in the first 6 over’s, surely we would end up triumphant. The wickets were falling fast. The Hurricanes unfortunately managed to stop the rot and a few of their batsmen batted really well. Our bowling attack plugged away, with a few of the boys bowling really well, but we struggled for wickets. The Hurricanes finished 117 for 7, after 20 over’s.
So 118 to win, surely we could knock this off. Chris and Andy opened the batting for the mighty Eclipse, but we were soon rattled. Chris lost his wicket for 0, caught behind. Next up to the crease was me. But I was soon walking back with my tail between my legs, caught behind (a dubious decision in my eyes) for a big fat golden duck. 2 wickets in the first over, not the start we wanted.
Skipper was next up and scored a quick fire ten runs. Andy also batted well as usual, and scored a respectable 20 runs. Wickets were soon falling again with Luke scoring 7 runs and Luke scoring 1. Rob DJ and Andy Campbell steadied us a bit, both scoring a respectable 12 and 13.
At least our tail wagged last Thursday. Steve Parker, making a guest appearance for us, ended up top scorer on 27 runs. He played some superb shots including a fine 6. His effort actually made the game exciting towards the end, with the help of the Nasher, who hit a superb 4. We needed 3 runs off the last ball with Nasher at the crease. It was his chance to cover himself in glory and win it for us with a big shot. But he didn’t. Unfortunately he was bowled out. So, there you have it. We lost by 2 runs, finishing on 115 after 20 over’s. Oh, almost forgot. Chris dropped a catch.
Cheers boys.
